  Preface to a friend

A long time has passed since you felt the first confused call of sculpture and modestly began carving bits of chalk and sculpting little animals for your classmates at school.

Then came the start of your professional life which, before being definitively established in Sculpture, led you from casting boat parts in bronze to training in physical therapy.

As a teenager, when school was over for the day, you attended the " Evening Museum " with its art classes offered by the city of Nantes, your birthplace. A city with a Fine Arts school, which after having enrolled you as a full-time student, wound up sending you to Paris as a scholarship student. For you, I think, it was a major turning point. Paris took you in, the Ecole des Beaux Arts on the Quai Malaquais welcomed you and Marcel Gimond accepted you as a student.

From your contact with the master, you retained a taste for analysis and the desire to delve ever further into the laws that bring forms to life. You were also strengthened in your conviction that Sculpture is made for and by humans and that basically humans are the most emotion-charged models for art.

Your intellectual curiosity and sensitivy drew much from reading and dedicated visits to museums and exhibitions. It was there that you discovered the bust of Amenophis IV, which became a secret model for you, not only for its inimitable quality, but above all for its exalted Spirituality. As a result, one gets the conviction that sculpture is a kind of physical capturing of the soul, or at least the relationship between the natural and supernatural.

In your talent, we find that mastery of form with an internal lyricism that occupies space through movement and a quest for the beauty of relations in space ; because they are what makes a work monumental rather than its actual size.

Thus is revealed to us a sensitive being, who with a somewhat nostalgic work of distinction, makes Us contemplate " human development " with feeling.
